We are looking to appoint a highly effective, dedicated and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team for 32.5 hours per week term time only (Pro rata as transition will be gradual – 20 hrs (Mornings) until February half term 2025, increasing to 32.5hrs per week following the half term). This is a fixed term post subject to review under the Education, Care and Health Plan for Special Educational Needs and will continue until the pupil leaves the school.

The role would include working 1:1 or in small groups/ whole class situations supporting a child with Down’s Syndrome who will be joining our Reception class.

Experience of working with pupils with Special Educational Needs, particularly Down’s Syndrome, is desirable, however training will be given. The suitable candidate will be able to work well as part of a team, and liaise with class teacher, SENDCo & outside agencies to provide the best outcomes for the child.

We are looking for someone with the following qualities and experience:

• Able to build and maintain good relationships with children, parents and staff
• Ability to ensure that the pupil’s needs are met and liaise with staff as
appropriate so that the pupil makes progress and achieves their very best
• A working level of Makaton (willing to train to level 4)
• Cued articulation (level 2 or 3) desirable
• A nurturing, supportive and positive attitude
• Good knowledge and experience of the EYFS curriculum, to support learning, play and child development.
• Ability to work on EHCP targets, keep up to date records and attend review meetings when
appropriate
• Maintain a working knowledge of health issues affecting pupils
• Supporting pupil with medical needs and intimate care (training provided)
• Support pupil with feeding and supervision
• Communicate effectively with parents and carers under the direction of the teacher
• Be committed to high standards of inclusion and be able to demonstrate a balanced approach to difficulties using both nurture and structure.
