This is an exciting time to join our school, we are experiencing a tremendous increase in numbers and this has put us in the wonderful position of being able to recruit new staff to join our supportive and forward thinking team. You would be joining a forward thinking and fully supportive team of staff who are passionate about improving the opportunities for all students. Archway was visited by a team of Ofsted inspectors in March 2022 and the school was graded “Good” in all five categories, with an overall effectiveness grade of “Good”. The inspectors recognised the significant progress that had been made in a number of areas since the previous inspection in 2018. The school prides itself on its inclusive attitude and green credentials. In the most recent Ofsted inspection, the Science department was praised for its determination and capacity to improve, and this was borne out by a dramatic upturn in GCSE science results in 2022, 2023 and 2024. This is a great time to join the department, Science is a focus area for the school and a popular choice at A-level. Our rising popularity has led to expanding student numbers, including at A-level, we are now looking to appoint a Teacher of Science.

It is desirable for the successful applicant to have experience of teaching Biology or Chemistry at A-level. The uptake of science subjects in the Sixth Form is good and the opportunity to hone your skills teaching A level is one of the benefits of this role.

The successful candidate will:
• Aspire to deliver an outstanding education to all our young people.
• Aspire to be an outstanding teacher and proactively engage with CPD (the school has a generous CPD budget and is keen to fund staff who wish to improve their skillset).
• Be able to bring Science to life in an innovative and meaningful way.
• Think creatively about how to implement schemes of learning and share their pedagogical ideas with colleagues.

Successful candidates will benefit from:
• Use of school facilities such as swimming pool and gym.
• After school activities such as staff Pilates.
• Electric car charging points at an additional cost.
• One paid ‘wellbeing day’ per academic year, which can be booked off during term time.

The Science team itself consists of nine motivated members of teaching staff, who have a real sense of community. The atmosphere is supportive, and they help each other to improve. They collaborate well to produce high quality overviews of learning. Most of the department time is devoted to improving teaching and learning; selecting a focus area for each term, agreeing a strategy and work together to implement that strategy. The department benefits from a very experienced and knowledgeable team of technicians, who have played a major role in supporting the improvements within the department.

We welcome applications from all qualified teachers with a passion for science, a determination to drive improvements in teaching and learning and an expectation that all students will reach their potential.
