Job Description We are looking for a DevOps Engineer to support our web development team at this very exciting time. The ideal candidate will have hands-on technical experience in designing, testing, automating and maintaining cloud-based infrastructure to support web application deployments in a fast-paced technology environment. The role involves managing existing IT infrastructure, developing new cloud-based infrastructure including infrastructure-as-code, and working closely with a development team to automate and streamline code deployments while assisting with release management. Note: this is not a web application development role; we are seeking a DevOps Engineer who wishes to take on a significant responsibility to support a major suite of applications. Salary circa £35,000 depending on experience | Hybrid Working (3 days on site). Please note that we are based in a rural location with no public transport. Responsibilities Manage an existing suite of internal and external virtual environments, including modernising older infrastructure assets from on-premise to cloud. Plan the migration of legacy IaaS technologies to modern PaaS environments. Configuration and setup of environments and infrastructure on multi cloud systems (Saas or Paas based). Support, actively monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve production-level infrastructure issues. Design, deploy and maintain a new infrastructure-as-code (IaC) strategy across development, QA, UAT and production environments for a major new PaaS platform. Collaborate with the development team to develop and integrate CI/CD processes for enterprise applications using pipelines and other associated technologies. Automate and improve development and release processes. Implement best-practice security measures and ensure critical resolution of system issues in conjunction with internal security teams. Work with developers and our test team to actively optimise the performance and stability of our infrastructure environments, balancing performance and cost. Act as a deployment gateway by overseeing pre-production acceptance testing, to ensure high quality of services and products. Maintain an active understanding of the latest industry trends and technology to guide the team towards an optimal cloud infrastructure. Work with senior members of the team to plan release and gather required resources and expertise to support releases. Qualifications A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, another relevant STEM subject, or demonstrable equivalent experience. Experience You will have circa 3+ years working as a DevOps Engineer or similar IT infrastructure role. Required skills Essential You must be currently employed as a DevOps Engineer or in a similar IT infrastructure support role. You will have excellent problem-solving skills and a team-oriented mindset. Proven implementation of CI/CD methodologies in a commercial environment. Commercial experience and use of Azure platform management tools (Azure Management Portal, Azure DevOps pipelines, Power Platform Admin Centre). Proven knowledge of estimation, cost management, and resource design/management. Experience of working in a structured IT department, collaborating with other IT functions, and being responsible for the control and management of multiple cloud-based enterprise application environments. Commercial experience of working with a development team on pipelines and release management. Use of Git repositories for code release. Proven use of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles and Terraform scripting Desirable Familiarity with open-source technologies and tools. Understanding of networking protocols and tools.
