Job Description Renishaw is seeking a Senior Metrology Engineer to provide metrology development for the CMM and Gauging Products division. Reporting to the Metrology Team manager, the role includes development of calibration algorithms for new CMM products, as well as investigating issues and making improvements to the metrology performance of existing products. The successful applicant will have opportunities to improve their understanding of the fundamental concepts and tools used for metrology analysis such as multidimensional space geometry, linear and non-linear least squares optimisations and uncertainty of measurement. Responsibilities To contribute to the development of new and existing products as part of the metrology team within the CMM and Gauging products division To develop, implement and test calibration and measurement algorithms for a range of CMM systems, including probes and heads. To write design documentation of a high standard. To work closely with the other elements of the division’s software department to deploy metrology algorithms and analysis tools as part of the UCCSuite software releases. To investigate metrology issues with existing products and design improvements where possible. To provide support to the division’s application and customer support engineers in understanding the metrology features of the division’s products and aiding the teams in solving more complex customer issues. Key requirements Educated to degree (or equivalent) level in physics, mathematics, computer science, engineering or similar. Good mathematical skills, with knowledge and experience in 3D geometry, coordinate system transformations and analysis of complex data sets. Experience using software, such as MATLAB, Python or C#, to analyse and model data. Good understanding of the scientific method, and ability to apply those principles. Desirable requirements Knowledge of CMMs, probes and metrology systems. Knowledge and experience of object-oriented software development in C++ or C#. An understanding of mechanical systems and how their behaviours can contribute to the performance of metrology products. Who are we looking for?
