An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Cheltenham Bournside School as a Teacher of English.

The English Department at Bournside is successful, dynamic and innovative. We are a dedicated and hardworking team of fourteen enthusiastic teachers and as well as having a Head of Department, we also have a Head of each Key Stage 3, 4 and 5. We constantly strive to be better and work collaboratively to deliver high-quality teaching and learning. Our curriculum intent is simple: enable all students to be critical readers, confident writers and successful speakers.

Preliminary results, nationally benchmarked against the grades of 290,000 students, suggest that our English Progress 8 value will be +0.39 with an average English GCSE grade of 5.18.

Our resources are excellent: a laptop for each English teacher, a set of laptops for exclusive use in the Department, visualisers for each room and two teaching blocks equipped with interactive whiteboards in each classroom.

We are proud of our knowledge-rich, resource-rich curriculum with topics such as Victorian Gothic, ‘right and wrong’ in fiction and protest poetry alongside Shakespeare. The English team is very strong and supportive. To add to our team, we are looking for an excellent classroom practitioner who has experience of teaching across all three key stages and has a genuine love of literature.

The post would be an ideal opportunity for a new entrant to the profession although equally attractive to a more experienced colleague. We have a positive commitment to supporting Early Career Teachers and a comprehensive staff development programme.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff, and volunteers, to share the same commitment. This position is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
